Almost a year after the official Google release, Samsung has finally started introducing the Android Pie update to the Galaxy Tab S3 and Galaxy Tab A. The former is a flagship device of 2017, while the latter is a low cost device from the same year. Both of those were released running Android Nougat, making the latest release the second and likely the last major update for these tablets.
Update status
At the moment, the update for the Tab S3 appears to be rolling out only to the LTE version in Malaysia, the Philippines and Vietnam. Meanwhile, the Tab A update is available only in Malaysia. The same goes with all the Galaxy series devices, the Android Pie update brings One UI and all its specific changes to these devices.
What’s in the update
Apart from the operating system update, the new release also features the August 2019 security patch to the Tab S3, which fixes seven critical Android vulnerabilities and 17 Samsung – specific issues. However, the Tab A (2017) will still be on the June security patch even after the update.
For those who haven’t received the update yet
Users who still haven’t received the update notification on their Galaxy Tab S3 or the Tab A (2017) yet, can go to their device’s Settings > Software Update > Download updates manually. If this doesn’t work, they might have to wait a bit or download the latest firmware for their device from online databases and manually flash it.
